Your Just in Time for our New Model Government

Randi Rhodes
For years the foul mouthed Randi Rhodes spewed her venom on Air America.
her vile attacks centered on George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and
other Bush Administration targets. Ms Rhodes called them names while
distorting their records and pronouncements on the events of the moment.
Then Randi Rhodes used this same technique against Hillary Clinton.
Rhodes was immediately suspended, then fired by Air America.
Here is the Huffington Post read on the whole event. HuffPo-Rhodes

memo to Winston Smith; Randi Rhodes is now a non-person
More Mindless Hearings
Putting their 11% popularity rating on the line, the Congress dragged
General David Petraeus in for the ‘Lets Humiliate the Military’ hearings
2nd edition. That on the heals of uncovering the secrets of steroids in
Baseball and beating on ‘Big Oil’ for making a profit.  Perhaps after
pounding on Petraeus they can hold even more hearings and drag in
‘Big Milk’ (profits up 50%) and ‘Big Corn’ (profits up 40%)
This congress holds hearings to pontificate their agendas and display
their ignorance on a host of subjects.
Their contempt for the Military is obvious, but it is the only part of
government that has their sh*t together.  It is the Military that gives them
the freedom to pontificate.
Profits in a publicly traded company go to the share holders. While we can
argue about executive pay, the bulk of the incoming wealth goes to the people
that these boneheads in congress represent.
Steroids in Baseball is not a congressional concern.  Major League Baseball
is a private business and other than making steroids illegal nationwide, there
is nothing congress can do except embarrass a few individual players.
11% may soon seem like the high-water point for this bunch of clowns.

Obama’s Hidden Constituency
Those born during and just after the Jimmy Carter years (1976-1988) are now
out of their teens and into adulthood. The oldest (born in 1976) are 32. These are
the potential voters that Barack Obama is courting. So what is the perspective
of these young people?  They have always known prosperity. Their material
wishes have mostly become reality.  Eating out is a normal activity.  Gas has
always been cheap (until recently). Traveling is passé.
This easy lifestyle that they grew up in has made them apolitical and unreligious,
(at least as far as joining a church or carrying on with family religious traditions).
They are ripe for the slogans and ideals that Obama professes.  In the world of
people born from 1976 – 1988, race is not an issue and boys and girls have always
been equal.  In their world experience, everyone should be equal in all ways. They
are a tough group to get to the polls, but they may be Obama’s
hidden constituency.

USA 193
In February a missile launched from the USS Lake Erie
hit a the dying satellite USA193. I commented on this in
an earlier post on the day of the event. At that time the
best link was the BBC.  I did a Google search today
and the top listed sources for information was insider
type web sites or blogs. There was no major media
news coverage to link to.
Let's suppose this event took place in the 70's, 80's,
or even the early 90's. The TV coverage would have
been huge. News stations would have had live coverage
with scientists and mathematicians explaining the event. We
would have seen the live shot and computer graphics of
the progress of the missle. When it hit the target there
would have been joy and jubilation among the news
reporters. We, as viewers, would have shared in the
excitement.
At least that is the way these type of events used to be
covered. I did find an intersting link: click here

Boys of Summer
It's been a brutal winter here in Wisconsin. Like a symphony
getting ready to start, spring is tuning up. Daylight savings
time is here so I drive home in the light. Baseball has started
and the steady sound of Bob Uecker calling a Milwaukee Brewers
game harkens to shorts, T shirts, and driving with the windows open.
Baseball is here and summer is on the way.
Like many I fell away from Baseball after the '94 strike. In
2000 I got hooked on Fantasy Baseball, which drew me back
into the game.
These days I follow the Brewers. The sports pundants are predicting
a big year for the Brew crew, but I don't see it. They have a 7 run
offense and an 8 run pitching staff. They signed an over the hill Eric
Gagne (closer) after losing ace closer Francisco Cordero to a
division rival, Cincinnati.  Down the Interstate, the Chicago Cubs
fans are full of hope, a normal condition for them. They do look
better this year though. Play Ball!
