Talkers
Recently heard the new Dennis Miller talker. Kind of bland but intellectual
Enjoyable in a Dennis Miller sort of way……Rumors of their demise
are premature, yes Air America is still around. Not any better.
Randi Rhodes still screeches her 3 hours of ‘Bush is bad’. (Please tell the
poor woman that Bush won’t be running in ’08.) Thom Hartman sounds
like the casual guy who’s been around. A big step up from Al Franken in
personality but not ideology. …. Milwaukee talk show host Mark Belling
(who occasionally guest hosts for Rush Limbaugh) has to be one of the
top 10 Radio Talk Show hosts in the country. This guy is on top of every
major issue with acute and mostly accurate analysis……I’m glad to see
Laura Ingraham gain some steam. Her show is fun.
….I feel like Michael Savage, “what’s the use, play some old rock ‘n’ roll”
sometimes myself. Savage is my kind of conservative, but the bitterness
and constant talk about food and his dog Teddy keeps me listening only
in small doses.
Senator Wide Stance
So this thing with Senator Craig from Utah is interesting. First of all let’s
dispense with the common sense stuff. Senator Craig was trolling for gay sex.
He had done this before. It was his very secret little life. That explains why
he pled to the lesser charge without involving his attorney (or anyone else in
his circle of friends). Then it would go away and no one would be the wiser.
Ok, so that didn’t work and before you know it Senator Craig is at the
podium declaring “I’m not gay”. Now here is where the whole issue veers
away from common sense.
First of all, why is gayness celebrated, defended and flaunted throughout
society but is suddenly a terrible thing when Senator Craig is involved?
Secondly, how is he a hypocrite for defending same sex marriage and
other issues dear to the gay community while being himself ‘gay’?
He promised his constituents that he would represent their views,
not his own personal agenda.
It’s all about the politics of gotcha. The biggest weakness of the
Republicans is that they don’t play this game well, on offense or defense.
…. And in Sports
In an earlier post I was all positive about the Milwaukee Brewers but then
the rest of the season happened. While the offense got better and played
solid baseball right up to the end, they couldn’t produce enough to overcome
the awful middle relievers. Rick Wise and Derek Turnbow gave up way too
many runs. I couldn’t figure out why Manager Ned Yost kept bringing them in.
A late season trade for reliever Scott Linebrink didn’t stop the bleeding.
In the end the Brewers ended with the record most knowledgeable fans
predicted at the beginning, “ around .500”.
Now we are at that same point with the Green Bay Packers. 6-1 going into
this weekend behind a rejuvenated Brett Favre. Pre season predictions
you ask? “around .500.”
