A fair for all and no fair to anybody*

Why is it that the first instinct of the loony left is
toward censorship?

We have all had examples at our local levels. How
many of you are no longer reading a conservative
columnist in your local newspaper because of a
concentrated letter writing campaign by the liberals?
In my area the local newspaper stopped carrying Ann Coulter
because she was “too abrasive” but they still carry the very
socialist Molly Ivans who is as abrasive as they come.
The lefty’s also got Cal Thomas out of the local newspaper and
they are still after Michelle Malkin and Bill O’Reilly.
The ironic thing is the newspaper in question tends toward the
conservative side to reflect the views of the majority of the local
population, . For the left it is not about the discussion of ideas it is
about shutting out any and all ideas that differ from theirs.
(Assuming they have ideas beyond their BDS problem).
The concept of Newspeak described in  George Orwell’s “1984”
describes perfectly the name.
The Fairness Doctrine.
In his must read book Left Illusions, David Horowitz describes a
common leftist tactic. Using a name for an idea that describes the
opposite of what the idea entails. The Fairness Doctrine is
exactly that.So what was it like before the 'Fairness Doctrine'
was eliminated in 1987?  I was a conservative then and had a some
conservative friends.  As conservatives we had no voice in the
marketplace of ideas. Sure among our small group of friends
and co-workers there was discussion and debate. (In those
days there were actually ideas put forth by the Democrats)
But on the National Stage, nothing. (Gads, was Joe Pine the
closest we had?)
That is until Ronald Reagan came along.
Then one day in early 1989 I heard a man give voice to  the
very ideas that I embraced. He was on the Radio!
A new national show. Rush Limbaugh.
The left for years have put forth the argument that Rush Limbaugh
'poisoned the minds of his ditto heads' with his conservative
drivel. What they don't seem to understand is that he was giving
voice to what the listeners already believed.  We've come a long
way baby!  There are conservative talk shows in abundance, both
nationally and locally. They would not be in abundance if they did
not generate an income for their stations.
Unable to capture an audience with their philosophy, Air America is
running on fumes and PBS is subsidized, the left does what comes
naturally. Shut up the competition. So as the Democrat/leftist/socialists
go forth with their agenda, they will make a run of re instituting
the Fairness Doctrine. Many say it won't clear the Senate, even though
the House will pass it. The Senate will be the key, and we must all
press hard on our Senators when the time comes to act.
I'm afraid that President Bush will lack the spine to veto it.
